The 2nd ENFIELD Innovation Workshop gathered AI researchers and innovators in Athens
Researchers and 2nd TIS Open Call Winners met at NTUA to present AI results across Energy, Healthcare, Manufacturing, and Space.
The second ENFIELD Innovation Workshop took place at the Central Library of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), bringing together researchers, innovators, and project teams from across Europe to exchange ideas, share project progress, and explore pathways for turning artificial intelligence research into real-world impact.
Hosted in Athens, the workshop focused on strengthening the innovation potential of ENFIELD’s Third-Party Innovation Scheme projects by encouraging collaboration, knowledge sharing, and awareness of funding, commercialisation, and intellectual property opportunities.
The event featured expert sessions on the future of AI adoption in Europe, including a keynote by Abhishek Sakhuja, Chief AI Innovation Officer at NTT DATA Benelux, titled “From Signals to Impact: Europe’s AI Story in Motion.” The programme also included contributions from Dr. Apostolos K. Lazaris of the Enterprise Europe Network, who addressed upcoming opportunities in the AI field, and Manuel Sánchez of the European IP Helpdesk, who explored how intellectual property can be transformed into market opportunities.
A central part of the workshop was dedicated to presentations from the projects funded under the TIS 2nd Open Call, with participants showcasing AI-based solutions across ENFIELD’s Industrial Domains: Energy, Healthcare, Manufacturing, and Space. Projects presented included solutions for city sustainability and energy demand forecasting, energy poverty alerts, AI-enabled human-machine interfaces, industrial dataset reliability, patient risk monitoring, maritime analysis, and low-SWaP UAV navigation.
The workshop also included interactive networking activities, including a participant “Speed-dating” session and the “Ignite your Project!” networking event, designed to create new links between research teams, innovators, and potential collaborators.
ENFIELD is an EU-funded initiative supported by 30 entities across Europe. It aims to establish a European Centre of Excellence for artificial intelligence, with research focused on Adaptive, Green, Human-Centric, and Trustworthy AI. Through its Third-Party Innovation Scheme Open Calls, ENFIELD has supported small-scale applied research projects addressing challenges in healthcare, energy, manufacturing, and space.
The Athens workshop marked an important opportunity for the ENFIELD community to share results, identify exploitation pathways, and strengthen the contribution of AI innovation to European society and industry.
